The Milgram Experiment (1963) examined the contrast between mankind's propensity to obey authority and their moral conscience when faced with a dilemma that pit those two natures against each other. Stanley Milgram sought to investigate justification for Nazi acts of genocide during World War II. The findings of his experiment are both shocking and controversial, a testament to the intrigue that has followed the experiment to the modern study of social science (McLeod, 2007).
