It has been over 50 years since we had first learned of Stanley Milgram’s controversial experiments on obedience. Although Milgram’s experiment was rigged, in a sense, Psychology gained monumental leaps from the discoveries of his findings. Both the “experimenter”, and the “learner” were actors, which was not known to the “teacher”. Based off of the parameters of the study, the teacher was informed to administer a shock in increasing increments of voltage every time an answer was provided incorrectly. Milgram hypothesized that no more than 3% of the total participants, 1000 individuals, would administer the final shock—of 450 volts—however, when the experiment had concluded more than 65% of participants administered. Additionally, Milgram did not inform the participants that they weren't actually providing voltage and that the machine was not on after the initial 45 volt shock. Even though Milgram's experiments received widespread controversy, his experiments have still appeared in modern day culture through several different facets as examined in the pictures below.
